African American women are strong, intelligent-determined beings. We do what we have to do for the sake of ourselves and the ones we love. Despite gender and racial setbacks that we face in this society, we walk with our heads held high and our issues under our feet. We are the backbone of our culture, yet in the media we are portrayed as overly aggressive tyrants.
African American women only receive airtime if they exploit themselves. This is a major disappointment and shows exactly what society and other races think of us. Young African American women today idolize the women that they see on television, therefore, if every African American woman she is watching is degrading themselves and expressing poor character traits, she too will do the same. Women in general are the foundation of human existence. Without women, there wouldn’t be reproduction. In society we are not viewed this way. We are seen to be less than or a step down from men. We are paid less, we receive lower titles and we are disrespected in the workplace. The media does an excellent job undermining our existence. Men rule everything!. On television we are portrayed as if we are supposed to be under man and submit to him completely. Although things are getting better we are still viewed as less than men. Things have to change!
